What is the difference between Counselling and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Counselling helps an individual to explore concerns and feelings in a safe and confidential setting with the help of a counsellor who is trained to listen attentively and without judging. This, in turn, may help individuals to understand themselves and what they are experiencing better and may help them to develop more fulfilling relationships and a more satisfying life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on how thoughts influence emotions, behavior and physical symptoms. CBT is a well-researched and effective approach recommended by NICE Guidelines as a first treatment of choice for treating various psychological and mental health conditions. CBT is the main approach used in the NHS for treatment of depression and anxiety disorders in both individual and group therapy settings.
Session Information: Sessions are delivered through Face-to-face, Telephone, Video & Email Counselling (e-counselling) and run for one hour. Therapy commences with an assessment, which may take the first one or two sessions to complete before treatment begins. The number and frequency of sessions are agreed upon collectively and tend to depend on the complexity of problems presented and how quickly the treatment plan advances. The therapeutic process is a collaborative process between the client and therapist.
Face-to-face or traditional in-person sessions are delivered with considerable flexibility and clients have the option to use telephone or video options if they needed at no additional cost.
Online therapy is accessible wherever you are, delivered by telephone, video or email. Research evidence shows that on-line therapy is as effective as traditional in-person therapy. It also has added benefits of being cost-effective and hassle-free hence it is becoming increasingly popular.
Email Counselling (e-counselling) and Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy offers the most flexible and affordable option as clients can contact their therapist at anytime (24/7). However, since email counselling is not delivered in real time response arrangements are discussed with the therapist.
